Lunch w/ Abigail Schneider & Myeisha Hutchinson

The Jefferson County Memorial Project (JCMP) is a grassroots coalition committed to telling Jefferson County’s history of lynching and explaining links to slavery, Jim Crow, and present-day mass incarceration. Stemmed from The Equal Justice Initiative’s National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, JCMP will claim Jefferson County’s monument and use the retrieval to spark a larger community dialogue around racial injustice. Abigail Schneider, JCMP’s director, Yale graduate, and Venture For America alumnus, will explain the four pillars of JCMP: Research, Educate, Place, and Advocate. As Hutchinson, a JCMP core member, descendant of a victim, and Birmingham native, will share why she became involved with the project and how JCMP intentionally works to grow a community comprehensive coalition.
