Rotaract and Birmingham Bar Young Lawyers Section CLE Seminar: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in the Legal Profession

This CLE (Continuing Legal Education) seminar is open to all Club members as well as members of the Birmingham Bar Young Lawyers Section. It will count for one hour of legal ethics credit. The discussion will focus on barriers to entry for minority candidates in law school, law firms, and courtrooms. Panelists will describe (i) real-life examples of systemic racism in these institutions as well as options for redress, (ii) what actions employers are taking to recruit black students from law schools, (iii) ways that company leaders are trying to be more inclusive, and (iv) times that employers or clients have demonstrated racial bias. Panelists are also welcome to describe implicit or overt personal biases they have encountered in their professional positions.
