Mike graduated from the University of Virginia with a Commerce degree and also studied at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. After college, he traveled extensively in Africa. Upon returning home, Mike co-founded the Rotaract Club of Birmingham and served as Co-President during the Club’s first year. He also served as a Co-Founder and Chairman of the Rotaract Club of Birmingham Foundation and led the fundraising campaign for the Club’s first signature service project, Ready2Read, which won the Rotary International Award for the Top Rotaract Service Project worldwide. Elsewhere in the community, Mike was involved closely with Red Mountain Park, serving as the Co-Founder and President of the Friends of Red Mountain Park. He has also served in leadership roles on boards of other civic groups such as the Red Mountain Park Fund, the PARCA Roundtable, the UVa Club of Birmingham, and the Southern Environmental Law Center.
Professionally, Mike was in investment banking and private equity for 14 years with FHL Capital and New Capital Partners. He also co-founded a software company called Strategypoint with Rotaract Co-Founder John Peinhardt. Today, he is semi-retired and enjoying lots of family time. Mike is married to Susan, his wife of ten years. Together, they are raising two young daughters, Lizzie and Margaret, and an old bluetick coonhound named Leroy.
In 2004, John Peinhardt co-founded and presided over the Rotaract Club of Birmingham, which provides unique leadership development opportunities to young professionals and has become the largest community-based Rotaract Club in the world. From 2006 to 2008, John served as Chairman of the Ready2Read project, which positively impacts more than 4,000 children annually by providing high-quality classroom libraries to every Birmingham City School second grade class. Ready2Read was recognized by Rotary International in 2009 as the International Winner of its Outstanding Rotaract Projects award.
Professionally, John has cofounded and served as CEO of Birmingham-based technology companies Directorpoint LLC and Strategypoint Corporation. Directorpoint was recognized three years in a row as one of Birmingham’s fastest growing companies, and was successfully acquired by Diligent Corporation in 2018. In 2017, John was awarded Top 40 Under 40 by the Birmingham Business Journal. Today, he enjoys spending time with his family, advising entrepreneurs, investing, and pursuing various personal interests and hobbies.
